Repertoire

The choir's repertoire reflects 40 years of work, selecting pieces for their particular quality and difficulty of execution, taking into consideration the musical talent of the choristers. Eros Beltraminelli has a long working relationship with the masters of classical polyphony – Palestrina and Gallus never disappoint. Bartók and Kodály are among the modern composers in the repertoire, but there are other composers worth discovering from countries where vocal music is of greater value than that of instrumental music.

The repertoire includes many pieces from various European traditions, starting with Bulgaria and Romania, then sweeping counter-clockwise through the Baltic and Scandinavian regions. The songs from these many nations are strictly performed in their original languages, respecting the context from which they come. Greater emphasis, however, is placed on their phonetic properties than on linguistic meaning. Contemporary repertoire needs to be chosen carefully, for the sake of quality. In any case, these pieces are dedicated to the choir and consequently their selection is often determined by whether the choristers like the pieces or not.
